Executive lawsuit between Juan Alonso Fernández de Silva Marín and Gaspar de Cuellar

Manuscript on vellum and paper containing the executive lawsuit raised in Granada between Mr. Juan Alonso Fernández de Silva and Mr. Gaspar de Cuellar, merchant of the city of Granada. Mr. Fernández de Silva says he is imprisoned by the demand of Mr. Gaspar de Cuellar, and also argues that he is a nobleman and that therefore he goes to his jurisdiction to respond to the bond required by the merchant to get out of jail.nnIllustrated with two polychrome miniatures in full page with the portraits of Mr. Juan Alonso Fernández and his wife Doña Isabel de la Paz before the Virgin and the child Jesus. The other miniature collects the image of the Apostle Santiago on horseback and the petitioner's coat of arms. Both miniatures are signed by Fray Diego del Pozo.nnThe manuscript is housed in a contemporary Baroque style binding, with squared wheels and vases accompanied by an assortment of botanical elements.,Measurements: 33.7 cm x 23.3 cm

Letter executing the nobility and waiver lawsuit between Alfonso de Torres against the residents of Villar de Domingo García in Cuenca, given in the reign of Henry IV. Handwritten in parchment in Gothic letter of forty-four lines containing the executory letter on nobility and exemption of taxes (tributes) filed between Alfonso de Torres against the residents of Villar de Domingo García in Cuenca in the year 1460. The petitioner alleges the nobility of grandparents and parents who fought in different campaigns with the kings of Castile, while the residents claim their contribution to a royal request. Both parties are recognized for their rights and obligations in a sentence endorsed by King Henry IV.nnThe executions of nobility of this period are very rare and there are very few preserved from the reign of D. Enrique. It does not retain the pending lead seal although it does part of the wires. Rarity, of the oldest in Spain.,Pergamino. . Juan de Maqueda Balderrama (or Valderrama), from Seville, was born around 1550 and became an officer of the Inquisition in 1579; this is his grant of nobility. The binding is very similar to others produced in the Granada chancery (see Exposicion de encuadernaciones españolas, plate XXIX, with the same border and the same shell, lion's head and corner stamps).,Folio (305 x 205mm.), [2 (blank)], 71, [1 (ruled but blank)] ff., illuminated manuscript on vellum written by S.º Barela (signed at end), three full-page illuminations containing the Virgin and Child with Philip II kneeling at her feet, a full-page picture of the Crucifixion, and the arms of Philip II, small portrait of Philip II towards end, all with red silk guards, modern calf binding retaining most of the original calf covering with gilt plateresque decoration, yellow and orange silk ties, printed fragments from original binding retained in plastic sleeve, first 2 blank leaves wormed and repaired, last few leaves wormed, slight rubbing to illuminations, one silk tie split, lacking lead seal.,Measurements: 31.5 cm x 22 cm

The cord is frayed at the edges and loose. The cord enters the spine at either end, and goes into the middle of the pages, where the cord goes down the length of the gutter. The cord is made of orange, gold & pink colored thread.,There are short leather straps at the top and bottom of outside edge of the front and back covers.,The back cover is torn.,There are inserts within the pages in three places. There's also a gash in the middle of the back cover. The holes and gash in the back of the book go into the pages next to the cover.,There is a cord near the middle of the pages in the book made of blue, gold & white thread. The cord goes down the gutter and the edges of the threaded end hang out at the bottom of the book.,Border designs around text boxes near the gutter of the book were not captured fully in many places to avoid damaging the book with the scanner.,Measurements: 36.5 cm x 26 cm

Manuscript on vellum. 22 leaves, ruled in red. On the first leaf a large figurative initial (Mary and Christ child) partly heightened in gold, another half-page coat of arms heightened in gold, framed by a decorative border with flowers and fruits. A further floral border around the second leaf and thirteen large initial capitals, all highly decorated in colours and gold.,The Folio is a contemporary blind-tooled calf with roll-tooled borders. The ties are missing.
