Information about this leaf: This is an etching of a tomb along the ancient Appian Way in the Buonamici Vineyard. The heading indicates that this leaf was taken from volume three of the work and the image is number twenty. The paper is handmade. The copperplate etching is the work of Piranesi, the most famous architectural etcher ever. He is famed for his "careful mechanical delineation" and "astonishing depth of shading."n--From the label,Information about this book: Although the label declares the publication date as 1774, the consensus among other sources is that it was actually published in 1784. This four volume book is actually a folio, but it is considered a book due to the amount of detailed explanations Piranesi included with his etchings.
