JM-027: Marriage of Brooklyn and New York

Image
Editorial cartoon depicting the marriage between a woman representing Brooklyn and a man representing New York. Figures representing other towns and counties in New York state watch the wedding, with almost all of them appearing upset. The image probably refers to a consolidation in 1898 that merged the borough of Brooklyn with New York city and created a shared police force and fire department for the newly enlarged City of Greater New York.

JM-W015: Freedom of the press is quarantined

Image
Editorial cartoon depicting a line of men and women waiting outside an International Food Conference. Soldiers stand in front of the door for both the Conference and a Casino, both of which have signs that spell out the limits of what the press can and cannot do, or when they even may enter the building. Another banner proclaims that Freedom of the Press is quarantined, not guaranteed.

JM-106: Two ways by which peace may be restored without casting Russia a kopeck

Image
Editorial cartoon depicting two panels, each with a different solution to promoting peace. In the top panel, Rockefeller comes forward to Komura and Dewitte with carriages full of money. In the second panel, Carnegie purchases rights to build a library on Sakhalin Island from Komura, making himself poor, but allowing the two men to walk away from each other.
